Animal Breeding Europe Limited is a leading UK based company specialising in artificial insemination, in-vitro production of embryos and embryo transfer in both Cattle and Sheep. We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to join our expanding cattle reproductive team based near Edinburgh.
Working as part of a small team you would be required to have great interpersonal and communication skills, as well as the ability to work independently. The position has elements of laboratory and on farm work so the candidate will ideally have experience working within a sterile laboratory environment and have handled embryos previously. The right candidate would need to demonstrate great attention to detail, accurate record-keeping skills and be flexible to work with the commercial nature of the business.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Undertaking all routine embryology tasks in the laboratory including the processing, freezing & thawing of gametes and embryos.
- Providing embryology assistance to team veterinarians on farm with collecting oocytes/thawing embryos.
- Providing the cleaning & maintenance of laboratory equipment/ surfaces on a regular basis
- Reliable and accurate data entry/ record keeping
- Ensuring precise quality control & monitoring in all tasks
- Handling of embryos & semen frozen stores
Qualifications and Experience
Working as part of a small team you would be required to have good interpersonal skills and must be able to work alone. A qualification in biology, agriculture or animal science is not essential but would be advantageous. A good telephone manner is also required alongside basic computer literacy.
Hours of work
The normal hours of work are 36.5hrs per week, usually based around usual office hours of 8.30am – 5pm Mon – Thurs and 8.30 – 4pm on a Friday. Work can be seasonal and additional hours may be required in the high season which can be taken as days off in lieu in the low season.
The post is based near Edinburgh. The job holder should have a full, clean driving licence. There will be a requirement for on farm work and any accommodation while working away will be paid for along with reasonable expenses submitted in line with the expenses policy.
This is a full-time, salaried position for which the salary will be dependent on experience. The remuneration package includes 33 days leave (including bank holidays), death in service benefit and a 4% pension contribution.
